Holly Center Recognizes SU, ShoreCorps/PALS, Shore CAN

SALISBURY, MD---The volunteer efforts of Salisbury University and two of its community outreach organizations were recently recognized by the Holly Center in Salisbury.

At the center’s 32nd annual volunteer appreciation luncheon, SU was honored along with its AmeriCorps program ShoreCorps/PALS and Shore CAN Volunteer Center.

“We greatly appreciate all the support from community groups,” said Marlina Belote, director of volunteer services and community relations at the Holly Center.  “We want to recognize anyone who donates their time to the Holly Center.”

SU was lauded for its “dedication to volunteer service in 2007” and “kindness shown to the residents and staff of Holly Center.”  According to Erin Dean, ShoreCorps/PALS program coordinator, AmeriCorps members help out at special Holly Center events ranging from its Operation Teddy Bear to dances and other activities for residents.  Shore CAN has recruited volunteers for other Holly Center projects.

At the luncheon, veteran WBOC anchor Steve Hammond was the keynote speaker.  Also featured were local musical performers Apple and Britt.

Holly Center is a state residential facility operated by the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene for persons who are developmentally disabled.  Located on 75-acres, it serves nine Eastern Shore counties.
