Iota Pi Tops Best Practices Competition

SALISBURY, MD—For the second year in a row, Salisbury University’s Iota Pi chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, the premier national accounting, finance and information systems honors fraternity, placed first in the fraternity’s Atlantic Coast Region Best Practices Competition.  This year’s regional meeting was held in New York in early April.

The Iota Pi chapter’s winning entry, “The Salisbury University Student Textbook Cooperative,” was developed and presented by Perdue School students Christopher Downey of Grasonville, MD, Amy Deese of Upper Marlboro, MD and Isam Bebee of Princess Anne, MD.

“The project outlined plans to provide a viable and attractive alternative source for purchasing new and used textbooks at the lowest prices available,” said Dr. Robert Dombrowski, faculty advisor to the team.  “The focus of the co-op would be SU students providing personal service to SU student customers.”

New York University, Lehigh University and Pace University placed second, third and fourth, respectively, in the competition.  As that first place winner, the Iota Phi Chapter received $500 and was invited to the national competition, which will take place in Honolulu, Hawaii in August, to compete against first place winners from the seven other Beta Alpha Psi regions in the United States.

Last year the SU team also won first place at the 2002 Beta Alpha Psi National Conference competition held in San Antonio, TX.
