Jazz Brazz Big Band Presents 'Jazz at Night' May 11
SALISBURY, MD---The Salisbury University Jazz Brazz Big Band and Jazz Wire Choir add a traditional theme to this year’s “Made in America” spring music festival with its Jazz at Night concert 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 11, in Holloway Hall Auditorium.
“We're doing a lot of standard and pop tunes that many will recognize,” said Tabor. “Additionally, we're doing the old swing-style tunes that Basie and others have played.”
The band pulls those tunes from its repertoire, which includes everything from standards such as “One O’Clock Jump” to more modern classics such as “Mission Impossible.” The old jazz tradition of creating arrangements without written music is not forgotten by the Jazz Wire Choir as it begins the evening with original jazz guitar ensemble music and new arrangements based on several jazz standards.
Jazz Brazz Big Band members include vocalist Laurel Noone; Brad Mangiafico and Ronald Reed on alto saxophone, Charlie Loane and Andy Owens on tenor saxophone; Scott Bunting on baritone saxophone; Mike Hilkert, David Hodges, Judy Benton, Jeb Gibson, Jeremy Latimer, Jeremy Kirkendall and Peter Palmasano on trumpet; Bill Courtney, Derek Brock, Kim Buegler and Lee Knier on trombone; Paul Scott on piano; Kevin Klein and Zach Caceras on guitar; Lee Braverman on Bass and Aaron Hardin on drums.
Wire Choir members include Mike Dickey, Mike Meyers, Matt Wirtz and Andy Morris on guitar; Lee Braverman on bass and Aaron Hardin on drums.
