Journalist Jeff Johnson Speaks at SU Tuesday, February 24
SALISBURY, MD---Former BET host and MSNBC contributor Jeff Johnson speaks at Salisbury University 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 24, in Holloway Hall Auditorium.
He discusses “Who Will Lead the Next Social Movement?”
An award-winning journalist, social activist and political commentator, Johnson was the only American reporter to receive a post-inauguration interview with Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, Africa’s first elected female head of state. He also was one of only two American news correspondents to receive an interview with Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir.
In 2008, Johnson won a National Association of Black Journalists Salute to Excellence Award for BET’s Life & Death in Darfur: Jeff Johnson Reports. Known for his BET program The Truth with Jeff Johnson, he also has provided commentary and analysis for CNN, Fox News, the Huffington Post and the Tom Joyner Morning Show, among other outlets.
Currently a partner and chief of strategy for the Baltimore-based branding firm Illume Communications, also has served as national director for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People’s Youth and College Division. In addition, he held an appointment as vice president of the Hip Hop Summit Action Network. Recently, he worked with performer Steve Harvey on his book Act Like a Success, Think Like a Success.
