SU Hosts Bridges to the World International Film Series February 2-March 2

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University takes movie lovers around the globe to such locales as Thailand, Peru, Sweden, China and Kenya during the seventh annual Bridges to the World International Film Series, Mondays from February 2-March 2.

All are introduced and screened at 7 p.m. in the Great Hall of Holloway Hall, followed by a discussion.

The series begins February 2 with the 2001 Thai film Monrak Transistor. In the movie, a down-and-out singer who forsook family and steady employment to pursue his dreams of becoming a star fondly recalls the transistor radio he gave his bride on their wedding day and the innocence it represented.

Others include:

• February 9 – Finding Gaston (Peru, 2014): This documentary follows Chef Gaston Acurio and his mission to change his country with food.
  
• February 16 – Palme (Sweden, 2012): This documentary tells the story of Olof Palme, prime minister of Sweden from 1982 until his assassination in 1986.
  
• February 23 – Kora (One Mile Above, China, 2011): In this film, based on a true story, a young man cycles to the highest point in Tibet to fulfill his brother’s final wish.
  
• March 2 – Masai: The Rain Warriors (Kenya, 2004): After a lion kills the village leader, a group of warriors are sent to hunt and kill the animal in hopes of ending a drought.

All films are shown in their native languages with English subtitles.

SU joins World Artists Experiences, Inc. and Maryland’s Office of the Secretary of State International Division in presenting the series. Salisbury is one of five chosen screening locations in Maryland, including Annapolis, California, Frostburg and Towson.

Films are sponsored by the embassy of each country. Admission is free and the public is invited.
