Julia Jendyk Receives Inaugural Calafiura Scholarship

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University senior Julia Jendyk has received the first Calafiura Scholarship, established this year at the Franklin P. Perdue School of Business. The award is valued at $1,500.

Marie Calafiura, an adjunct faculty member at the Perdue School since the late 1980s, said she established the scholarship after her own experiences in college.

“I went through school on scholarship, grants and loans, and I know what it feels like during that senior year,” she said. “I wanted to help.”

Calafiura received her Master of Business Administration from SU in 1989.

A native of Gronau, Germany, Jendyk is a 2000 group recipient of Germany’s prestigious Goethe Prize for students. She is a member of the Beta Alpha Psi  fraternity and honor society for accounting, finance, and information management students and professionals; Beta Gamma Sigma business honor society; Phi Kappa Phi international honor society and Phi Mu sorority. She presented her work during the 2003 National Conference of Undergraduate Research in Utah.

The senior accounting and international business administration major resides in Princess Anne, MD. She is the daughter of Georg and Ulrike Jendyk of Gronau.

“Besides being very helpful financially, this particular scholarship is an outstanding means to recognize academic achievement since it is awarded in your final year and is therefore based on your entire academic career,” Jendyk said.

Available only to seniors, eligibility for the Calafiura Scholarship is based on overall grade point average, grade point average in accounting courses and completion of a specific set of accounting courses.
