T-SAFE Workshop Scheduled at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium

SALISBURY, MD---Motor vehicle crashes, occurring on and off the job, are the leading cause of death and injury in the United States, costing more than $50 billion annually in medical care, legal expenses, property damage and lost productivity.

To help save lives, Maryland’s business community has joined with the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration and national, state and local traffic safety advocates to create the Maryland Traffic-Safety Awareness for Employers Program (T-SAFE). The program offers employers resource materials related to various traffic safety program areas such as aggressive driving, occupant protection, impaired driving, and inattentive driving to help keep employees and their families safe.

“Whether your employees are operating a large fleet of commercial vehicles on the job, or driving to and from work in their own vehicles, T-SAFE is here to help,” said State Highway Administrator Neil J. Pedersen, the governor’s highway safety representative. “Traffic safety is every employer’s business, and the State appreciates the private sector’s support for T-SAFE.”

Maryland T-SAFE hosts a free lunchtime seminar for employers to raise awareness of traffic safety issues in the workplace from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 19, at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. Topics include risks employers face every time an employee drives to and from work or on the job, crash-related financial losses and impacts to employers and case studies from other Maryland employers who have implemented no-cost or low-cost traffic safety programs. Employers must register in advance to attend.
