LDGS Donates $5,000 For Books to Nabb Research Center

SALISBURY, MD---The Edward H. Nabb Research Center for Delmarva History and Culture at Salisbury University’s resources soon will be greater than ever thanks to a recent $5,000 donation from the Lower Delmarva Genealogical Society (LDGS). "Most persons pursuing family history are interested in more than unconfirmed bare bones pedigree charts,” said Center Director Rebecca Miller. “The majority of these donated titles enable researchers to add rich historical detail to their ancestors' lives." Founded 1982, the Nabb Research Center in recent years has become the primary resource for local and family history on the Delmarva Peninsula, serving both professional researchers and those who just want to discover more about their own family’s past. The center is both a clearing house for regional history and a repository of unique records and artifacts. Nabb officials are using the contribution to purchase a large quantity of books from the center’s ever-growing wish list. These include abstracts of Somerset, Wicomico and Worcester county land records, judicial proceedings and wills as well as a selection of compilations of 17th and 18th century Maryand and Virginia records. The Nabb Research Center and LDGS collaborate in many ways to educate and involve the public in history, said Miller. The center serves as a site for the society’s meetings, and a number of society members provide volunteer research assistance at the Nabb. Society members who approved the acquisitions list for the donation included Polly Batchelder, Allan Green, Virginia Green, Barry Miles and Ray Thompson.
