Latin American Nobel Laureates lecture Oct. 17

SALISBURY, MD ---Salisbury University presents "Readings from Gabriela Mistral" as part of its Cinco Estrallas Series on Latin America's Nobel Laureates in Literature on Thursday, October 17, at 7 p.m. at the Fireside Lounge, Guerrieri University Center. Lectures on four other "stars" are scheduled throughout the fall.

Mistral is considered one of the most accomplished Latin American women of the 20th century as author, educator and diplomat. In 1945 she was the first Latin American writer to win the Nobel and remains the only female writer to date so honored.

Dr. Carmen Jimenez, a faculty member in the Department of Modern Languages, will lead the discussion in both English and Spanish. Photocopies of the readings are available on reserve in the Blackwell Library. (Ask for the "Cinco Estrallas" file.)
