McLean Mix Returns to SU November 5-6

McLean MixSALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University’s “Brazilian Groove” fall cultural events series continues with the McLean Mix multimedia rainforest installation Monday-Tuesday, November 5-6, in the Wicomico Room of the Guerrieri University Center.

Hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. both days. Extended hours are 7-9 p.m. Monday. A lecture and demonstration by Barton and Priscilla McLean, who host the installation, follows Tuesday’s presentation at 7 p.m.

The installation is a portable audio-visual-environmental interactive exhibit that allows participants to create original and beautiful sounds using recordings and instruments while viewing a slide presentation of rainforests around the world.

The McLeans, who recorded rainforest sounds from locations such as Peru, Hawaii, Australia, Borneo and Puerto Rico, will be available to answer questions.

The New York Times hailed the installation’s “performance virtuosity and the evocative and sometimes dramatic nature of the music” and called it a “strange but intriguing aural and visual experience.” The San Antonio Express-News called it “enchanting” while Music in New Zealand lauded the fact that “evocative ... sounds were all beautifully sampled and synthesized, and mixed with skill and understanding.”

Sponsored by the Office of Cultural Affairs, admission is free and the public is invited. For more information call 410-543-6271 or visit the SU Web site at www.salisbury.edu.
