Nabb Center Features Eastern Shore Baseball Exhibit

SALISBURY, MD---Most baseball enthusiasts are familiar with the names of Jimmie Foxx, Frank “Home Run” Baker, Dick Twilley Porter, William “Judy” Johnson. However, fewer may realize that such baseball legends and many more hailed from Maryland’s Eastern Shore. The Edward H. Nabb Center for Delmarva History and Culture at Salisbury University features these and other players with Eastern Shore ties in its current exhibit, “Eastern Shore Baseball Goes to the Majors,” scheduled through Friday, October 15. The exhibit features baseball cards, memorabilia and signed baseballs from the collections of SU Police officer and adjunct history lecturer Ed Jones, his son Trey Jones, and John C. Taylor III, son of Nabb member and volunteer Pat Taylor. Included are players from the Eastern Shore League of the 1940s through today’s Delmarva Shorebirds. Featured teams include the Parksley Spuds, Cambridge Canners and Milford Doves. Additional displays trace the history of the modern Baltimore Orioles, which celebrate their 50th anniversary this year, and baseball greats as they have appeared on Topps baseball cards during the past 20 years. The Nabb Research Center is located on SU’s East Campus in Room 190 of the Power Professional Building on Wayne Street. The exhibit is free and the public is invited.
