OSHA Compliance Workshops Scheduled Tuesday, April 13

SALISBURY, MD---Two half-day workshops on occupational safety and hazard communications are offered at Salisbury University on Tuesday, April 13. The courses count toward the National Safety Council's Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Compliance. Certificates are presented to those who attend. The Center for Professional Development at Salisbury University and Safety Council of Maryland, Inc., co-sponsor an OSHA compliance certification course 8 a.m.-noon, then a hazard communications course from 12:30-4:30 p.m. that day. Topics covered during the morning course include: Preparing a Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Hazard Assessment of the workplace as required by OSHA Identifying critical items that must be in a PPE Hazard Assessment Certification Statement Avoiding common PPE compliance mistakes that could result in costly OSHA fines Reducing the number and severity of injuries throughout work facilities Saving on workers’ compensation and related costs Topics in the afternoon session include: How to determine if hazardous chemicals are present in the workplace Steps for setting up an effective hazard communication program Guidelines for labeling hazardous chemicals Using Material Safety Data Sheets to evaluate hazardous chemical exposures Promoting responsibility for initial and ongoing hazard communication activities Assessing gaps between the HCS and workplace programs and identifying key actions for closing the gaps The per-course cost is $99 per person for Safety Council members, $135 for non-members.
