Photographic exhibit examines teen pregnancy

SALISBURY, MD -----Salisbury University hosts "Children of Children: Portraits and Stories of Teenage Parents," a multimedia photographic exhibit at Fulton Hall Gallery from Friday, October 11-Sunday, November 3. Photographer-artist Michael Nye will be present at the opening reception, sponsored by the American Association of University Women, on October 11, from 6-8 p.m.

Nye, a San Antonio attorney-turned-photographer, lectures internationally for the U.S. Information Agency. His images of people around the world have led to "Children of Children," and a commentary on the impact of teen pregnancy on different cultures, ages and backgrounds.

The show has traveled to more than 25 cities throughout the United States and abroad. Fifty black-and-white portraits are accompanied by audio stories of those whose lives have been dramatically affected by teenage pregnancy. Visitors can walk up to any portrait, and using headphones, listen to a four- to five-minute narrative of the subjects' difficult choices.

Funding is provided by the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore, the Office of Cultural Affairs and Museum Programs at Salisbury University and partial funding from the Maryland State Arts Council.

Admission is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Tuesdays-Fridays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday, noon-4 p.m. For more information call 410-548-2547.
