Red Molly Performs During SU Hoedown Wednesday, April 30
SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University puts on its cowboy boots and jeans for a hoedown featuring Americana folk trio Red Molly 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, in Holloway Hall Auditorium.
Since 2004, Red Molly has performed to crowds throughout the United States, as well as Australia and Denmark. Opening for such legendary acts as Willie Nelson, the trio — Laurie MacAllister, Abbie Gardner and Molly Venter — has earned critical accolades and its own unique fan base, who call themselves “RedHeads.”
The group’s albums have spent multiple weeks on the Americana Music Association’s Top 40 radio chart. Its most recent, Light in the Sky, was the Folk Alliance International Folk DJ No. 3 top album of 2012. Red Molly has played at the Philadelphia Folk Festival, the Bristol (TN) Rhythm and Roots Reunion and MerelFest (NC), and on West Virginia Public Broadcasting’s Mountain Stage, heard locally on WSDL, 90.7 FM.
The Boston Globe has praised the group’s “tick-tight arrangements, crystalline vocals and caramel harmonies.” John Platt of WFUV in New York raved, “Red Molly has earned a place among the elite female trios.”
Sponsored by the Cultural Affairs Office, admission to the band’s SU performance is free and the public is invited. For more information call 410-543-6030 or visit the SU website at www.salisbury.edu.
