SSO Holiday Concert is December 13
SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University’s “Sing, Swing and Santa” holiday music festival culminates with the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra’s annual Holiday Concert 8 p.m. Saturday, December 13, conducted by Dr. Jeffrey Schoyen.
Guest jazz artists Jim Ferguson and Mundell Lowe join the SSO for this special performance. A vocalist and bassist, Ferguson released his first album, Not Just Another Pretty Bass, in 1999, and his second, Deep Summer Music, in 2000. Guitarist Lowe, a jazz legend, has performed with Billie Holiday, Lester Young, Charlie Parker and others. He worked in the NBC and CBS television orchestras in the early 1950s and was an active performer in Dave Garroway’s Today Show studio band.
Together, Ferguson and Lowe released the album Haunted Heart in 2007. They perform songs from that collaboration, as well as jazz arrangements of Christmas standards with the SSO. The orchestra also performs Sibelius’ Karelia Suite and selections from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite.
“We are very fortunate to have two jazz artists of such high caliber,” said Schoyen. “It is a privilege for the orchestra to perform with them.”
Admission is $20, $15 for seniors, $5 for children 12 and under. For tickets visit bookstore.salisbury.edu and click on “Box Office.”
