SU Celebrates the '80s With John Hughes Film Festival

SALISBURY, MD---From Clark Griswold’s cross-country trip to Wally World to the wild abandon of Ferris Bueller, writer and director John Hughes is considered the master of 1980s teen cinema.

Salisbury University showcases five of his best-known movies during its John Hughes Film Festival as part of SU’s “‘80s on Our 80th” spring cultural events series. All screenings are at 7 p.m. Films in the series include:

* Monday, February 13: National Lampoon’s Vacation – Chevy Chase stars as a Clark Griswold, a business executive from Chicago who takes his family on a mishap-filled cross-country vacation to California they’ll never forget!

* Monday, February 20: Sixteen Candles – Molly Ringwald stars as Samantha Baker, who learns about the complexities of high school relationships as her sister’s wedding overshadows her 16th birthday.

* Monday, February 27: The Breakfast Club – An ensemble cast that helped give rise to the 1980s “Brat Pack” of young movie stars spends a Saturday in detention, learning that stereotypes are not always the best judge of their classmates’ true selves.

* Monday, March 6: Pretty in Pink – The third of Hughes’ films featuring Ringwald, this time she stars as Andie Walsh, a girl from the wrong side of the tracks who must decide between two suitors with the support of her best friend, Duckie (Jon Cryer).

* Monday, March 13: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off – Matthew Broderick, in the title role, shares his philosophy and life with his best friend and girlfriend as he take a day off school in suburban Chicago in this coming-of-age comedy.
