SU Chorale and Chamber Choir Join For May 8 Concert

class=""MsoNormal"">SALISBURY, MD---Songs of nature, folk music and vocal jazz stir the Salisbury University Chorale and Chamber Choir to join voices for their spring concert 4:30 p.m. Sunday, May 8, in Salisbury University’s Holloway Hall Auditorium.

class=""MsoNormal""> “The repertoire choices for this semester focus on a variety of styles ranging from a renaissance madrigal to vocal jazz, and a twenty-first century composition,” says Dr. William Folger of SU’s Department of Music.

class=""MsoNormal"">“Many of the texts focus on nature and American folk-music descriptive of the land and of its people.”

class=""MsoNormal"">Directed by Folger, the two ensembles are fresh from both a concert at Carnegie Hall with the New York City Chamber Orchestra and Festival Chorus, as well as a stirring performance of Mozart’s Requiem.

class=""MsoNormal"">Together they perform works including “Shenandoah,” arranged by James Erb and “Cindy,” an American folk song arranged by Mack Wilberg.

class=""MsoNormal"">The University Chorale, featuring student singers from across campus, performs selections including “We Remember Them” by Donald McCullough, a composer from Washington, D.C.; “My Soul’s Been Anchored in the Lord” by Moses Hogan; “All Through the Night” arranged by K. Lee Scott; and “Die Nacht” by Heinrich von Herzogenberg, a contemporary of Johannes Brahms.

class=""MsoNormal"">The Chamber Choir, the most select student choral ensemble on campus, pays tribute to classic American song with “Embraceable You” by George and Ira Gershwin, as well as traditional repertoire with “My Funny Valentine” from Babes in Arms by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart, “The Cricket” by Josquin Des Pr?s and “Tu es Petrus” by Maurice Durufl?.
