SU Colleges Against Cancer Hosts Photo Contest, Exhibit
SALISBURY, MD---Is a picture really worth 1,000 words? Members of Salisbury University’s chapter of Colleges Against Cancer are hoping so—especially if the message helps educate people about the risks of smoking.
The organization, affiliated with the American Cancer Society, promotes a smoke-free campus with a photography contest and exhibit Tuesday-Sunday, March 24-29, in the University Gallery of Fulton Hall.
Those interested in entering the contest should submit an 8-inch by 10-inch picture with an appropriate caption in any of four categories: “Things I Do Instead of Smoking,” “My Inspiration To Quit Smoking,” “Why I Don’t Smoke” and “Faculty/Staff Entries” to the Student Activities Office in the Guerrieri University Center by noon Wednesday, March 11. The contest is open to students, faculty, staff and community members. Entrants may submit up to one photo in each category.
Winners will be announced during an opening reception 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 24. The winner of each category receives a $100 Best Buy gift card. The overall winner receives a $150 Best Buy gift card, and the entry will appear on posters advertising a smoke-free concert at SU featuring rock bands Mae and Hotspur.
Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, noon-4 p.m. weekends. Admission is free and the public is invited. For more information e-mail CAC@salisbury.edu or visit the SU Web site at www.salisbury.edu.
