SU, Easton High School Students Team For the Environment

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University’s Environmental Health Club recently joined students from Easton High School’s Environmental Club to restore a riparian stream buffer at Pickering Creek Audubon Center in Easton, MD.

Just one hour into the project, the clubs had planted nearly 750 plants as part of the “Bring Back Buffers” project, funded by a grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and the Chesapeake Bay Trust. Students and teachers planted a wide variety of greenery, including American holly, switchgrass, arrowwood and New York ironwood, all grown at Environmental Concern, a non-profit wetlands conservation and education facility in St. Michaels, MD.

Replacing the mile-a-minute, Japanese honeysuckle and sweet briar that had overgrown the area, these plants serve as food sources for birds and insects and help filter agricultural runoff in natural waterways.
