SU Galleries Presents 'Pastels, Paints and Photographs' April 25-May 25
SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University Galleries hosts the exhibit “Pastels, Paints and Photographs” April 25-May 25 in the Atrium Gallery of the Guerrieri University Center.
A reception is 5-7 p.m. Thursday, April 28.
The artwork in this show is created by mental health consumers living in Maryland and includes those challenged by other disabilities from inpatient and community-based rehabilitative programs under the jurisdiction of the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
The artists, who range from children to adults, have had little or no formal art instruction but have created pieces in many media, including paintings, drawings, photography and ceramics.
The exhibit presents a therapeutic experience for the artists by allowing them to develop their creativity in preparing pieces for display. Additionally, the exhibit gives the public a chance to see how art therapy continues to be an important tool for mental health and rehabilitation counselors.
“Pastels, Paints and Photographs” is supported by a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council, an agency funded by the State of Maryland and the National Endowment for the Arts. This project is sponsored by the auxiliary of the Eastern Shore Hospital Center, Inc., in partnership with the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. The exhibit is organized by the Eastern Shore Hospital Center’s Volunteer Services Department.
Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Wednesday. The exhibit and opening reception are free and the public is invited. For more information call 410-548-3972 or visit the SU Web site at www.salisbury.edu.
