SU Hosts 'Charlottesville: How Did We Get Here? Where Do We Go from Here?' Panel November 7

SALISBURY, MD---When a white supremacist protest turned fatal in Charlottesville, VA, last summer, the world took notice.

Salisbury University’s Institute for Public Affairs and Civic Engagement (PACE) and the SU Honors College explore the issues surrounding the tragedy and its aftermath during the panel discussion “Charlottesville: How Did We Get Here? Where Do We Go from Here?” 6 p.m. Tuesday, November 7, in the Patricia R. Guerrieri Academic Commons Assembly Hall.

Topics and presenters include:

•    Rabbi Arnold Bienstock, History Department – “Anti-Semitism and the Jewish Community”

•    Dr. Kayla Follmer, Management and Marketing Department – “Race, Politics and the Workplace”

•    Dr. Aston Gonzalez, History Department – “Charlottesville in a Historical Context”

•    Dr. Konstantine Kyriacopoulos, Teacher Education Department – “Educating Students about White Supremacy”

Small group discussions follow. In addition to discussions led by each panelist, topics include “Protest and Assembly at SU,” led by Dr. Dane Foust, vice president of student affairs, and Dr. James King, English faculty and SU NAACP advisor; and “Protest and Assembly in the City of Salisbury,” led by City Administrator Julia Glanz and Salisbury Police Chief Barbara Duncan.
