SU Hosts Multicultural Leadership Summit March 5

Dr. Monica Moody MooreSALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University’s Multicultural Student Services Office hosts its annual Multicultural Leadership Summit for students 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, March 5, in the Wicomico Room of the Guerrieri University Center.

This year’s theme is “A World of Opportunities: Leadership, Exploration and Development.” Dr. Monica Moody Moore, founder of High Aspirations, an educational and management consulting service, and associate dean of Johns Hopkins University’s Carey Business School, keynotes the event at 9 a.m.

The SU alumna speaks on “Building a Leadership Brand: What Good Do You Stand For?”

“Leadership is technically about positive change,” she said.

But what’s positive for one person or organization is not always positive for another. Leaders need to consider their values in advance — and not be afraid to shift their position based on new perspectives.

“The beauty of being a leader is that your educational opportunities have the ability to change your eyesight,” she said.

Moore began establishing her leadership brand as an SU student. Studying communications, she tapped into her interest in writing and public speaking by authoring a play that was performed on campus and giving multiple speeches. That creativity has grown and manifested itself in many ways throughout her career, which has included not only classroom lectures and motivational speaking, but a book of poetry.

Through her work leading High Aspirations, she has provided leadership workshops and seminars in Maryland, Florida, California and Washington, D.C. Moore also serves as an adjunct lecturer of advanced academic programs in Johns Hopkins’ Krieger School of Arts and Sciences and also has taught at Notre Dame University of Maryland and the University of Maryland, College Park.

Registration deadline is Friday, February 26. The cost for non-SU students is $25. To register call 410-548-4503. For more information visit the SU website at www.salisbury.edu.
