SU Launches Community Global Learning Seminar Series
SALISBURY, MD---In November 2008, Salisbury University launches its Community Global Learning Seminar Series (CGLSS) with a week-long exploration of one of the great theater capitals of the world: London, England.
“This exciting international continuing education opportunity is designed especially for Salisbury University friends, alumni and the Delmarva community interested in traveling abroad and learning about foreign cultures and people,” said Dr. Brian Stiegler, director of the Center for International Education. Each seminar is led by an SU faculty member with an expertise in the destination, who provides informal lectures, background reading and insight to enrich the travel experience.
“I’m fascinated with the theatre of the United Kingdom, and especially London,” said Gerald Patt, faculty leader for the trip. “There is no better place that one can witness the parallels of the history of the world and the history of theatre. From the Globe to the West End and from William Shakespeare to Peter Shaffer, the connections between history and theatre are clear. All this, and Parliament, Big Ben and a ride on the London Eye make for a very exciting experience indeed.” Patt recently retired from SU’s Communication and Theatre Arts department after 25 years of teaching and formerly served as director of theater at Fordham University in New York City.
During the London seminar, November 8-16, participants will explore the cultural richness of London through two nights at the theater (shows to be announced), two three-day London Travel Cards that include guided city tours and a “tube” pass. The estimated cost is $2,600, which also includes round trip airfare, double occupancy accommodations, daily continental breakfast and several group dinners. A $250 deposit is due at the time of application. Deadline is Sunday, August 10. Enrollment is limited.
Applications are available at the Center for International Education (1101 Camden Avenue). For more information contact Patt at gdpatt@salisbury.edu; the Center at 410-334-3495 or sucie@salisbury.edu; or visit the SU Web site at www.salisbury.edu/intled/cglss/london.
