SU Named in Top 10 Percent of National Rankings

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University students starting classes this week have something to celebrate. U.S. News & World Report and The Princeton Review’s Best 361 Colleges have ranked SU among the top 10 percent of all universities of its kind in the country.

Kaplan Newsweek’s America’s Hottest Colleges 2006 edition includes SU in its “367 Most Interesting Schools.”  This year, SU is also one of 264 campuses profiled in The Princeton Review’s Best Northeastern Colleges. Kiplinger's Personal Finance also named SU among its top 100 Best Values in Public Colleges.

"Salisbury University's consistent ranking in the top 10 percent of our nation’s colleges and universities reflects the strength of our academic programs,” said President Janet Dudley-Eshbach. “Our excellent faculty and staff care deeply about our students and are largely responsible for our success and national recognition.”

This is the ninth consecutive year SU has appeared on the U.S. News Top 10 list for public institutions—master’s category—in the North. U.S. News uses several criteria to measure academic quality at 572 institutions nationwide, including peer assessment, retention rate, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, graduation rate and alumni giving rate.

Provost David Buchanan echoed the president’s comments. “I’m grateful that after several years of financial pressures, SU is maintaining its status as seventh in the North among its peers. This is a tribute to the talent and dedication of our faculty and staff,” he said.

For the seventh straight year, SU is in The Princeton Review, representing the top 10 percent of some 3,500 colleges and universities—public and private-nationwide. The list is compiled through a combination of statistical analysis, campus visits and student surveys which the authors characterize as “qualitative and anecdotal rather than quantitative and scientific.”
