SU Presents 'The Road to Freedom' Wednesday, February 15

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University’s African-American History Month celebration continues with Key Arts Productions' The Road to Freedom: A Journey Toward Peace at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 15, in the Wicomico Room of the Guerrieri University Center. 

This multimedia production includes performances by live actors, singers and musicians as well as big screen footage and images depicting the civil rights movement during the past century. 

Live commentary throughout the program describes the injustice of racial discrimination, as seen through the eyes of Sojourner Truth, Harriet Tubman, Booker T. Washington, Coretta Scott King and many other civil rights pioneers.  Musical performances include “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot,” “Down By the Riverside” and “Bridge Over Troubled Water.”

“The Key Arts Production Company has become a main stay of African-American History Month programs at SU,” said Vaughn White, director of Multiethnic Student Services. “Joseph Patterson, director of music at Key Arts, has provided his best singers for the program which helps to provide a musical context and historical context of events that have impacted American history. This is the group’s third visit to the campus. We are expecting the usual strong performance by this production company.”
