SU Students Receive National Eta Sigma Gamma Honors

SALISBURY, MD---When Julia Morrison of Reisterstown, MD, founded Salisbury University’s Epsilon Xi chapter of Eta Sigma Gamma (ESG), the national honor society in health education, she hoped to make connections in her field of study.

Little did she know how far those connections and her work with the organization — and beyond — would take her.

Morrison was named the Loren Bensley Jr. Gamman of the Year, one of the national organization’s top honors, during ESG’s 50th anniversary celebration at the Society for Public Health Education’s (SOPHE’s) annual meeting in Denver.

Earning her B.S. in community health education from SU in 2016, Morrison was the inaugural president of the Epsilon Xi chapter. The award recognized her leadership and passion for health education on campus and in the community. In 2015, she served as co-coordinator of the Eastern Shore Senior Games at SU. She also was a yoga instructor at the University Fitness Center for two years.

Morrison was not the only Sea Gull to earn high honors at the SOPHE meeting. Lauren St. Pierre, a senior community health major from Bel Air, MD, was named a National Commission for Health Education Credentialing/ESG Health Education Major of the Year. The Epsilon Xi chapter also received the organization’s National Chapter Recognition Award.
