SU Theatre Presents ART November 19-23

SALISBURY, MD---What is friendship? What is art? Salisbury University explores these concepts during its presentation of Yasmina Reza’s Tony Award-winning play ART Wednesday-Sunday, November 19-23, in Fulton Hall’s Black Box Theatre.

Directed by Robert Smith of SU’s Theatre and Communication Arts Department, the comedy centers on an all-white painting purchased by art lover Serge. While Serge sees the painting as a work of art, his friend Marc views it as nothing more than a blank canvas. Their friend Ivan complicates matters by sitting on the fence. Their views on the artwork become the springboard to more personal arguments that threaten both their friendship and the painting itself.

The New York Post says ART is “wildly funny, naughtily provocative.” Newsweek calls it “a nonstop crossfire of crackling language, serious issues of life and art expressed in outbursts that sound like Don Rickles with a degree from the Sorbonne.” The London Times calls it a “classic comedy, period.”

Art is recommended for mature audiences. Curtain is 8 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday, November 19-22, and 2 p.m. Sunday, November 23. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and students weekdays and $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and students on the weekend, including Friday. SU ID card holders are admitted free.

The performance features John Ebert as Mark, Matt Ripa as Serge and Steve Young as Ivan.
