SU Theatre Season Opens September 6
SALISBURY, MD -- The Bobbi Biron Theatre Program at Salisbury University announces the opening play of the 2001-2002 season, Three Viewings, a one-act dark comedy by Jeffrey Hatcher opening Thursday, September 6.
Three Viewings is storytelling at its finest as three characters, through monologue format, weave a vivid verbal tapestry of satiric observation, intrigue and pathos as they recount their experiences with the dearly departed. The setting is a funeral home in western Pennsylvania. The three storytellers are Emil, the outwardly timid yet secretly passionate funeral director; Mac, the irreverent granddaughter of the town’s deceased matriarch; and Virginia, the naive wife of a Awheeler dealer@ contractor who has died leaving her with many surprises. Fans of the new hit HBO series, Six Feet Under, will recognize many similarities between that show and this play, especially with regard to the shared satirical look at the funeral process. AI am fortunate to have this opportunity to work with a cast of dedicated professionals who bring a wealth of experience into this production,@ said Catie Shingleton, director. AThey pull out so much from Hatcher=s words and make each character’s story so real and personal. There is something for each audience member to connect with---humor, tenderness and anger. @ The cast includes Timothy G. Dykes of Salisbury, Kimberly Parker of Millsboro, DE, and Patsy Felthousen of Salisbury. Dykes, a veteran of the SU stage plays Emil. Dykes discovered his passion for theater at the University in the 1970s as a student of the late Dr. Lieland Starnes. Under his direction Dykes performed in Godspell, Our Town, Twelfth Night and The Corn is Green. Most recently, Dykes performed under the direction of Dr. T. Paul Pfeiffer, director of the SU theater program, in Into the Woods and The Crucible. Parker, in her debut performance at SU, plays Mac. Parker, a K-4 music teacher for Laurel (DE) School District and board president of BayStar Productions (a professional theater group) is a 1990 graduate of Shenandoah Conservatory with a Bachelor of Music Education degree. Parker=s acting and singing credits include performances in Delaware and Maryland as Nellie in South Pacific, Sister Robert Anne in Nunsense, Elaine in The Last of the Red Hot Lovers, Shelby in Steele Magnolias, Luisa in The Fantastics and Sonia in They=re Playing Our Song, and several musical reviews and murder mysteries. Parker=s directing credits include Greater Tuna and Fiddler on the Roof.
