SU's Burton Introduces 'London Road' at Rehoboth Beach Film Festival Nov. 12

SALISBURY, MD—Salisbury University helps celebrate the 19th anniversary of the Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival by hosting the unique musical London Road. The film is introduced by Dr. James Burton of SU’s Communication Arts Department at the Saturday, November 12, screening.

Directed by Rufus Norris, London Road is a British thriller that follows an incident from 2006, when the quiet town of Ipswich was devastated by the discovery of the bodies of five women. The residents of London Road frequently struggled with soliciting and curb-crawling on their street. When a local resident was convicted of the murders, the community grappled with what it meant to be at the epicenter of this tragedy.

Burton is familiar with Ipswich. He received his B.A. from the University of Essex, UK, and earned both his M.A and Ph.D. at the University of Nottingham. Burton has taught at SU since 2009. He specializes in media and film studies, culture industries and cultural memory. “I think it's great that SU sponsors film-related events,” Burton said. “It's a wonderful festival and to be associated with such a culturally important art form reflects the University's values in every way.”

The Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival offers American and international features, documentaries and short films. It is the oldest and largest film festival of its kind in Delaware.
