SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University senior Lindsay Manuel may be younger than most Wicomico County Convention and Visitors Association (CVA) members, but her contributions rival those of senior CVA colleagues.

For such dedication, the Wicomico County Department of Recreation, Parks and Tourism has named Manuel its 2009 Betty K. Gardner Tourism Person of the Year.

Manuel is “a real go-getter willing to do whatever you need,” said Sandy Fulton, Wicomico County tourism director. “She is the first to volunteer for our events, is always the first to bring us bag stuffers for participant bags, has great ideas for the future and is such a pleasure to work with. No matter what setting you see her in, she is always promoting Wicomico County and the things and events that make this area special—and she is the youngest person to receive award.”

Manuel said her dedication is a labor of love: “I love Wicomico County, and can’t resist telling people what a wonderful place it is to grow up, live and work,” she said. “Wicomico County Tourism has provided me with an experience that let me put into practice many of the principles I learned in my Salisbury University classes. I am undoubtedly grateful to work by their side in the hospitality industry and be a part of the great impact the tourism office has on Wicomico County.”

The director of sales for Hampton Inn in Salisbury, Manuel is expected to earn her bachelor’s degree in communication arts this summer. She is the third member of the SU community to have won the award in the past four years, along with SU Athletics Director Mike Vienna and Media Relations Director Richard Culver.
