Salisbury Symphony Orchestra Performs 'Home for the Holidays' Concert December 12
SALISBURY, MD---The Salisbury Symphony Orchestra at Salisbury University (SSO) continues its 30th anniversary season with its annual Holiday Concert, “Home for the Holidays” with returning guest tenor Dominic Armstrong on Saturday, December 12.
Directed by Dr. Jeffrey Schoyen, the performance begins at 7:30 p.m. in Holloway Hall Auditorium. The concert is the culminating event in SU’s 2015 Winter Music Festival, “The Sounds of Salisbury: A Family Gathering.”
Since his last concert with the SSO in 2012, Armstrong has performed with some of the most well-regarded orchestras in the U.S., including the Boston Symphony and New York Philharmonic. He also made his Carnegie Hall debut.
A graduate of the Curtis Institute and the Juilliard School, Armstrong has performed with Deutsche Oper Berlin, Opera Regio Torino and the New York City Opera, among others. He also has sung at Ireland’s Wexford Opera Festival.
Opera News says Armstrong is a “vocal standout,” adding that he leaves “a sizeable mark” on the stage. The Wall Street Journal has called him “unbeatable.” The Washington Post hails him as “vocally strong” and “passionate.” The New York Times lauds him as “suave” and “versatile.”
A grand finalist in National Council auditions with the Metropolitan Opera, his prestigious honors include the Gerda Lissner Award and the Lucrezia Bori Grant. He also was a winner of the Liederkranz Art Song Competition.
The program includes selections from Tchaikivsky’s Swan Lake Suite and Ippolitov’s Caucasian Sketches, Op. 10, as well as “Winter” from Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, Massenet’s “Porquoi Me Reveiller,” Wagner’s “Winterstürme” and Puccini’s “Recondita Armonia.”
