Winter Weather Salisbury University is closed Friday, March 6, due to inclement weather.

Essential personnel not on approved leave should report to work.

As part of the University’s Emergency Preparedness Plan, essential campus functions will be maintained. Following are some of the services available, weather conditions permitting:

Blackwell Library will be open until 4 p.m. (no services).
The Commons Dining Services will maintain regular operating hours until 7:30 p.m. Though the Gull’s Nest in the Guerrieri University Center is closed, Cool Beans will be open until 5 p.m. Satellite dining locations are closed.
IT labs and the Help Desk will be open until 7 p.m.
The Guerrieri University Center is open with services from noon to 5 p.m. with the main corridor open until midnight.
Maggs Physical Activities Center and the University Fitness Club will operate as normally scheduled.
SU Police will remain open 24 hours.

For medical emergencies, please call 911.

The NCAA women’s basketball tournament is on as scheduled.

The Fulton School’s 25th anniversary celebration for Friday evening has been postponed.

The Maryland Collegiate Honors Council Conference, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, is cancelled.

The TARGET Program class scheduled in Teacher Education and Technology Center Room 380 on Saturday, March 7, has been canceled.

The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement warning of temperatures in the teens and twenties, ice and hazardous driving conditions. Please dress warmly if you must go out and exert extra care while walking.

The NWS also encourages motorists to be alert to areas of black ice. Many secondary and rural roads remain snow covered and icy. Please drive defensively.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), temperatures are predicted to be in the twenties on Friday, with a high near 30 degrees. North winds from 6-9 MPH are expected with wind chill as low as zero. Please dress warmly if you must go out and exert extra care while walking because of hazardous conditions.

The NWS also encourages motorists to travel with caution due to an expected accumulation of snow and ice, especially on bridges, overpasses and secondary roads.

Snow and sleet accumulations of 3-5 inches are expected, tapering to 2-3 inches in coastal Atlantic areas. Please dress warmly if you must go out and exert extra care while walking because of hazardous conditions.

SALISBURY, MD---The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Wicomico County and the Lower Shore of Maryland, in effect until midnight.

* Hazards: Mix of sleet and snow, then snow late Thursday morning through early evening.

* Timing: Rain will mix with sleet on Thursday morning. A translation to snow/sleet mix is expected by mid- to late morning, becoming all snow by mid-afternoon through early evening.

* Accumulations: Snow and sleet accumulation of 3-5 inches is expected across the northwest portion of the Lower Maryland Eastern Shore. This is expected to taper to 2-3 inches closer to the Atlantic Coast, where more precipitation will fall as sleet. Trace amounts of ice are possible.

* Temperatures: Low 30s, dropping into the mid-20s by early evening.

* Winds: North 10-15 mph with gusts to 25 mph

* Impacts: Roads will become snow covered by mid- to late morning Thursday. Visibilities will drop to around a quarter-mile at times Thursday afternoon, making travel dangerous.

* Precautionary/preparedness actions: A winter storm warning means significant amounts of snow, sleet and ice are expected. Strong winds also are possible. This will make travel very hazardous or impossible.
