Summer Center Brings Together Talented Maryland Youth
class=""MsoNormal"">SALISBURY, MD---Jazz with a Latin flavor, classical music and show tunes: this year’s Maryland Summer Center for the Arts provides a musical potpourri at Salisbury University.
class=""MsoNormal"">Latin music group Salsamba! comes to Holloway Hall Auditorium 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, as part of the Maryland Summer Center for the Arts.
class=""MsoNormal"">A jazz quintet with a recipe for musical excitement, Salsamba! blends the traditions of American jazz with the spicy rhythms of Cuba, Brazil and the Caribbean. Much of the group’s music is written and arranged by guitarist and leader Eric Susoeff. In addition to appearing on National Public Radio’s American Jazz Radio Festival, the Pittsburgh-based group opened for late Latin jazz king Tito Puente. Co-sponsored by the Salisbury Wicomico Arts Council, tickets to the group’s Salisbury performance are $18, available at the door.
class=""MsoNormal"">The Summer Center also hosts several free performances and exhibits by its 140 students throughout the month. Music theatre class students perform Broadway selections at Barnes & Noble Booksellers in Salisbury 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 13. Orchestra students perform classical and contemporary pieces at the store 3 p.m. Thursday, July 14.
