Tickets Available for Oct. 28 Perdue Leadership Award Banquet
SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University’s Franklin P. Perdue School of Business Leadership Award pays tribute to area business leaders for their contributions to the University and greater community. This year’s honoree is the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce.
The award will be presented during a banquet at noon Thursday, October 28, in the Worcester Room of the Commons.
Celebrating its 90th year in 2010, the chamber was founded in 1920 by a group of 80 local businessmen interested in supporting the community and bettering Salisbury’s economic climate.
During the past nine decades, the chamber has worked to establish and keep several local institutions—including SU—in the city. Its members helped entice aviation pioneer and philanthropist Richard A. Henson to relocate his Allegheny Airlines commuter service—now operating as U.S. Airways Express—to Salisbury.
The chamber also has supported local schools with donations and scholarships, and founded several traditions celebrated today, including the annual Salisbury Festival. It has promoted an annual welcome program for local college and university students, and its Young Professionals Committee has invited seniors and M.B.A. students from the Perdue School to attend functions.
“The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce has been at the forefront of many major efforts that have helped shape the community over the last 90 years,” said Brad Bellacicco, the chamber’s executive director, who accepts the award on behalf of the organization. “It remains an important influence in making this a great community.”
The name of each year’s Leadership Award winner is engraved on a plaque in the Perdue School. Each honoree also receives a commemorative award.
Tickets to the banquet are $20 each and must be purchased by Friday, October 22. For tickets and information, please call Peggy Baker at 410-548-5391 or e-mail mabaker@salisbury.edu.
