University Galleries Hosts 'Illuminations' Exhibit November 27-December 15
SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University Galleries hosts the exhibit “Illuminations” November 27-December 15 in the Atrium Gallery of the Guerrieri University Center.
A reception is 5-7 p.m. Thursday, November 29.
This exhibition features the work of outsider artists challenged by a variety of mental and physical disabilities from the Eastern Shore Hospital Center in Cambridge, MD, and Go Getters, Inc., in Salisbury. The artists, who range in age from children to adults, have had little to no formal art instruction, creating pieces in many media, including paintings, drawings, photography and ceramics.
The exhibit presents visual expressions of a therapeutic experience, allowing the artists to develop their creativity as they prepared pieces for display. Additionally, the exhibit gives the public a chance to see how art therapy continues to be an important tool for mental health and rehabilitation counselors.
“Illuminations” is supported by a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council, an agency funded by the State of Maryland and the National Endowment for the Arts. This project is sponsored by the auxiliary of the Eastern Shore Hospital Center, Inc., in partnership with the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. The exhibit is organized by the Eastern Shore Hospital Center’s Volunteer Services Department.
Gallery hours are 1-6 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday-Saturday, closed Mondays and holidays. Admission is free and the public is invited. For more information call 410-548-3972 or visit the SU Galleries Web site at www.salisbury.edu/universitygalleries.
