SSU Hosts 16th Annual High SchoolMathematics Contest Nov. 10
After both exams are over, the students and teachers will attend the presentation "Are Seven Game Baseball Play-Offs Fairer Than Five Game Baseball Play-Offs?" by Dr. Lee May from the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at SSU.
The day is concluded with an awards luncheon. Each student will receive a certificate of participation and a T-shirt designed specially for the event. U.S. Savings Bonds will be awarded to the top five students on the individual test and the best three teams for the team exam. There will also be some cash awards to schools and book prizes.
"The Salisbury State University Math Contest is an excellent opportunity for students to apply the math skills that they have worked hard to learn. My students enjoy both the individual competion as well as working together as a team representing our school," said Melissa Mitcheltree, a Parkside school teacher and team advisor.
The competition draws teams from Maryland, Virginia and Delaware. Typically, around 22 teams and 66 students attend this annual event. This year's participating schools include Arcadia, Broadwater Academy, Cape Henlopen, Chincoteague , Colonel Richardson, Delmar, Delmarva Homeschoolers, Easton, John M. Bennett, Indian River, Laurel, Mardela, Nandua. North Dorchester, North Caroline, Parkside, Pocomoke, Snow Hill, Stephen Decatur, Sussex Central, Wicomico, Worcester Preparatory.
