Spring Lecture Series March 3: Jean Kilbourne Lecture, "Deadly Persuasion: Advertising and Addicition

SALISBURY, MD--Dr. Jean Kilbourne, media critic and creator of the film "Killing us Softly," is the next guest speaker in Salisbury State Universityâs spring lecture series, The Media and American Society. Her presentation, "Deadly Persuasion: Advertising and Addiction," is on Wednesday, March 3, at 7 p.m., in the Wicomico Room of SSUâs Guerrieri University Center. Her presentation is free and open to the public.

Kilbourne, an internationally-recognized authority on media, addictions and gender issues, has been interviewed by magazines and newspapers including "Time," "Newsweek" and "The Wall Street Journal" and has been a frequent guest on radio and television shows including "The Today Show," "20/20," "Prime Time Live" and the "Oprah Winfrey Show." The award winning films "Still Killing Us Softly," "Calling the Shots and Pack of Lies" are based on her lectures.

She was an advisor to the Surgeon General and testified for the U.S. Congress and was recently appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services to the National Advisory Council on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.

Kilbourne has lectured extensively throughout North America and abroad and twice received the Lecturer of the Year award from the National Association for Campus Activities. She is also a visiting scholar at Wellesley College.
