Chamber Choir Performs April 29" 

SALISBURY, MD---The Salisbury State University Chamber Choir presents a concert of choral music on Sunday, April 29, at 4 p.m. in Asbury United Methodist Church on Camden Ave. south of the University. The concert, sponsored by SSU’s Music Department, is free and the public is invited.

Works include Requiem by Gabriel Faure, English anthems by Mathias and Stanford, Marian motets by Rachmaninoff and Kverno, two sound pieces by Hopkins and Whitacre and three gospel and spiritual hymns.

“The most challenging piece is Cloudburst by Whitacre due to its very contemporary, harmonic language and some … extended vocal ranges and language,” said Dr. Michael Weber, choirmaster and SSU music professor.

The choir 52-member choir includes students from numerous disciplines including music, education, English, and the sciences.

Many of the pieces have musical accompaniment. The Jubilate Deo by William Walton uses an organ, Cloudburst requires a piano and percussion instruments, the Faure Requiem uses violas, cellos, bass, harp, tympani, French horn and trumpet and the gospel section uses piano.
