Faculty and Staff Receive Foundation Grants"  

SALISBURY, MD---The Salisbury State University Foundation Grants Committee recently awarded grants totaling $10,188 to 20 SSU faculty and staff.

Recipients from the Seidel School of Education and Professional Studies were: Dr. Liddell Madden, $400, Department of Social Work, Monograph-Vulnerable Populations on the Delmarva: A Social Work Perspective; Drs. Ronald Frank, Joel Jenne and Nancy Michelson, Department of Education, $660 each, presentation at the National Council for Social Studies “Teaching for Conceptual University” Conference; Dr. Debra Thatcher, $560, Department of Education, presentation at National Conference for Mathematics Educators in Orlando, FL;  and Drs. Amy Meekins, John Wolinski and Ernest Bond, $640 each, presentation “Teaming Gutenberg with Gates: The Point and Click Generation Transacts with Books,” at the International Reading Association annual conference in New Orleans, LA.

Recipients from the Fulton School of Liberal Arts were: Dr. Andrew Sharma, Department of Communication Arts, $240, presentation of a paper in panel session “International Joint Ventures” at the 43rd annual convention of the Broadcast Education Association in Las Vegas, NV; Dr. Wayne Ackerson, Department of History, $400, participation in the Midwest Conference on British Studies and the fall 2000 meeting of the New England Historical Association, Boston, MA; Dr. George Whitehead, Department of Psychology, $440,  participation in poster session of Eastern Psychology Association Convention in Washington, D.C.; Dr. James Hatley, Department of Philosophy, $288,  presentation at The Levinas Seminar at Duquesne University; and Michael Weber, Department of Music, $800, presentation of the Requiem by the SSU Chamber Choir.

Henson School of Science and Technology recipients were: Dr. Robert Rosing, Department of Geography, $320, geography conference expenses; Dr. Augustine DiGiovanna, Department of Biology, $280, presentation of “Age Changes in the Urinary System, Muscles and Effects of Exercise,” at the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education Conference in San Jose, CA; and Dr. Daniel Harris, Department of Geography, $320, presentation of “Planning a Regional Public Transportation System in a Three-County Rural Area: Expectations, Politics and Academics,” at the Association of American Geographers in New York.
