Henson Faculty Attend NCUR Planning Workshop
SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury State University faculty members recently participated in the Coastal Carolina University in Conway, SC, Council on University Research (CUR) workshop, "Institutionalizing Undergraduate Research."
The team of Dr. Tom Jones, dean of the Henson School of Science and Technology, and Henson School faculty members Dr. E.J. Crane of the Department of Chemistry and Dr. Mike Bardzell of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science represented SSU.
The workshop goal for each team was to develop a plan to further the cause of undergraduate research on their home campuses. Jones, Crane and Bardzell drafted a plan that included both short- and long-term goals, among which was the development of summer programs for undergraduate research and addressing workload issues for faculty mentors.
Salisbury State will have its first University-wide symposium, Salisbury State Undergraduate Research Conference (SSURC), in April 2001. Plans are underway to make this a major event celebrating undergraduate scholarship at SSU.
