Human Subjects Research Topic of April 26 Lecture" 

SALISBURY, MD---Julia Pedroni, research associate at the Poynter Center for the Study of Ethics and American Institutions and philosophy professor at Indiana University, discusses “Emerging Issues in Human Subjects Research” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 26, in the Worcester Room of the Commons at Salisbury State University. 

The lecture is free and the public is invited. A reception follows.

Pedroni discusses new medical research issues and how they relate to human test subjects. “We must prepare ourselves to make the ethical decisions associated with these new methods,” she said.

Before beginning graduate work in bioethics, Pedroni worked at Procter and Gamble’s molecular and genetic research laboratories and at the National Institute of Mental Health.

Pedroni earned her Ph.D. from Georgetown University, where she completed a dissertation on ethical aspects of clinical trials. In addition to teaching courses in philosophical and applied ethics, Pedroni also co-directs Scientists and Subjects, an NIH-funded human experimentation ethics seminar for academic researchers and research administrators.  

Her other interests include ethical issues in genetics and reproductive technologies, feminist ethics and philosophical ethics.
