SU Hosts Summer Research Celebration

Summer Research Celebration 2017SALISBURY, MD---For some college students, summer on the Eastern Shore isn’t about the beach.

Recently, some 12 students from across the U.S., along with others from Salisbury University, presented their recent scholarship during SU’s annual Summer Research Celebration.

Poster presenters included students from other campuses who worked with Dr. Enyue Lu of SU’s Mathematics and Computer Science Department through a National Science Foundation (NSF) Research Summer Research Celebration 2017Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program.

Some 14 students in SU's Richard A. Henson School of Science and Technology were awarded Henson Summer Research grants. With faculty advisors, they have spent the past months studying topics ranging from gene expression, to gene variants in wetland microbial communities, to surveys from SU’s inaugural Girls Innovation Academy for middle school students, and  more. Student summer research in the Henson School has been funded by the Guerrieri Family Foundation and by NSF grants that support SU’s Bridges for SUCCESS program and REU programs.

Psychology students from SU's Charles R. and Martha N. Fulton School of Liberal Arts also participated in the celebration, sharing their research through that department's Summer Undergraduate Psychology Research Experiences Program.

Summer Research Celebration 2017Independent scholarship and research are hallmarks of an SU education.
