Friday April 8, 2005
SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University junior Christopher Tracy joins students from Yale, Harvard and MIT this summer as a member of the AlumniAthlete Wall Street Summer Internship Program. Nationwide, only 60 students were selected for the 2005 class. The program provides collegiate sophomores and juniors paid internships at the most prestigious investment banking firms in the world. Interns are placed in a group or on a desk and work as full members of a deal/transaction team on meaningful assignments related to real projects. For 10 weeks starting in June, Tracy will work for the Union Bank of Switzerland (UBS), home of the world’s largest trading floor, learning the skills involved with investment banking. “They expect us to hit the ground running,” Tracy said. “We’re doing actual work in the field, and it should be a great opportunity to test what I’ve learned in the classroom. I’m very excited.” Only 500 applications for the annual internship were sent to selected scholar athletes. Two business essays narrowed the field to 125. Finalists interviewed with three companies each. Tracy’s interviews included the Bank of America and CitiGroup as well as UBS. A member of SU’s varsity soccer team, Tracy was named a first-team College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American. He is a member of the Financial Management Association, Association of Financial Professionals, Economics Society and Beta Gamma Sigma business honor society. “We've always stressed that students who participate in athletics at SU are students first and athletes second,” said Dr. Gerry DiBartolo, marketing faculty and men’s soccer coach. “Chris is a perfect example of this and he is true to the quality of the program. He is an exceptional student and an exceptional athlete.” “His accomplishment speaks to the quality of our business programs,” said Dr. Hong Yao, economics faculty. He earned The Wall Street Journal Achievement Award and is a National Dean’s List and SU Dean’s List student at SU, where he is double majoring in economics and finance. The son of Pat and Kathy Tracy of Venetia, PA, he is a 2002 graduate of Peters Township High School in McMurray, PA. After graduation from SU, he hopes to enter the commercial real estate or securities markets. At Salisbury University some 6,900 students in 43 undergraduate and 11 graduate programs pursue liberal arts and professional degrees. Located on the Eastern Shore 30 miles from the Atlantic Ocean and 20 miles from the Chesapeake Bay, Salisbury is 2 ½ hours from Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Norfolk, VA, and Wilmington, DE. Among its peers, SU is ranked in the top 10 public universities in the North by U.S. News & World Report. For more information call 410-543-6030 or visit the SU Web site at www.salisbury.edu.
