University of Maryland System Board of Regents approves mid-year tuition increase

SALISBURY, MD ----The University of Maryland System Board of Regents yesterday approved mid-year tuition increases of up to 5 percent to help colleges and universities cope with the fiscal crisis brought on by the State's revenue shortfall.

At Salisbury University this means that for the spring 2003 semester, tuition will go up $85 for full-time Maryland undergraduate students and $170 for full-time out-of-state undergraduates.

"We are trying to minimize the impact of the budget cutbacks on our students, while maintaining the quality education that makes a Salisbury University diploma so valuable," said President Janet Dudley-Eshbach.

The tuition increases are expected to generate some half-million dollars in revenue. So far this year SU has incurred additional unfunded fixed costs increases in the amount of $2 million and its State allotment has dropped $3.7 million, representing a total negative impact of $5.7 million.

A letter has been e-mailed to students today with details of the increase https://www.salisbury.edu/admin/boardltr03.htm. For more information on Systemwide increases visit http://www.umsa.umd.edu/Overview/News/USMNewsReleases/bdtuit03.html.
