Worcester County Scholarships Awarded

SALISBURY, MD---Twenty-five Worcester County college students have $1,500 more in their pockets this fall to help with expenses, thanks to the generosity of Charles and Martha Fulton of Snow Hill. In addition, recipients of Worcester County Scholarships at Salisbury State University have an opportunity to receive the monies for up to four years.

"Scholarships such as these can be critical in helping students meet expenses or have opportunities they otherwise could not afford," said Jane Dane, SSU dean of enrollment management.

The scholarship is open to graduates of Worcester’s public high schools. Preference is given to those with a minimum B (3.0) grade point average and demonstrated financial need. The scholarship is renewable each following year if the student maintains a 3.0 GPA and is enrolled full time. Admission to SSU automatically qualifies a student for consideration as a Worcester County Scholar.

This year’s recipients are: from Berlin--Crystal Dize, Christopher Donnelly, Christie Grant, Michael Trader, Jason Bunting, Eliza Mason and Lindsey Ellen Hastings; Bishopville-- Jillian Freeman and Marilyn Freeman; Ocean City--Jason Robertson, Brian Robertson, Amy Stafford and Christina Ake; Pocomoke City--Tabitha Cartwright, Kristine Huff, Brian Miles and Michael Tyler; and Snow Hill--Jennifer Everett, Julie Johnson, David Smith, Brandy Wootten, Carroll David Serman, Kenneth Browne, Joshua Davidson and Kristen Parsons.

This is the second major scholarship fund the Fultons have established at the University. The first was part of a $2.5 million bequest which endowed the School of Liberal Arts and established the Fulton Scholars Program. The School of Liberal Arts was renamed in their honor.

The Fultons have said they are deeply concerned about the problems and education of young people in all aspects and have generously supported a variety of educational programs in the region. Charles Fulton is a retired agribusinessman.
