World-Renowned Paul Taylor 2 Dancers Perform April 5
Monday March 8, 2004
SALISBURY, MD---One of the world’s most cutting-edge interpreters of modern dance performs at Salisbury University Monday, April 5. The Paul Taylor 2 Dance Company, described by The New York Times as “one of the most exciting, innovative and delightful dance companies in the entire world,” takes the Holloway Hall Auditorium stage at 8 p.m. Taylor 2 is a select company of highly skilled, engaging, youthful dancers who have entertained international audiences. World-renowned choreographer Paul Taylor established Taylor 2 in 1993 to ensure that his works could be seen by a wide audience, unhindered by economic or logistical limitations. He worked with long-time colleague Linda Hodes to create a company that could accommodate performance requests as well as teach and provide community outreach. In creating Taylor 2, Taylor looked back to the 1954 origins of the Paul Taylor Dance Company for the structure: six professionals with a particular gift for his style who perform his work throughout the world. Many of the dances performed by Taylor 2 have been re-worked from the Paul Taylor Dance Company’s version to enable the smaller ensemble to interpret them. Critics and audiences cheer as Taylor 2 introduces the athleticism, humor and range of emotions found in Taylor’s original works. Time calls the troupe’s founder “the reigning master of modern dance.” Newsweek calls him simply “the world’s greatest living choreographer.” In 2000, Taylor turned the reins of Taylor 2 over to Taylor Company alumna Susan McGuire, who continues the founder’s high standards of creativity and unique choreography. Sponsored by Drs. Alan and Natalie Hopson, the SU Dance Company and the Office of Cultural Affairs and Museum Programs, the performance is free and the public is cordially invited. Tickets are required and may be obtained in advance at the Information Desk of the Guerrieri University Center starting Wednesday, March 24.
