Humor Lecture - Don Whaley
SALISBURY, MD-- Salisbury University History professor Donald Whaley discusses "Beavis and Butt-Head Find a Soul Mate: Richard Nixon as a Comic Figure in Hollywood Films" on Monday, March 18, at 7 p.m. in Room 149 of Devilbiss Hall. Part of the University's humor series, admission is free and the public is cordially invited.
Whaley's presentation is taken from "Richard Nixon," an essay which will appear in the Columbia Companion to History on Film, forthcoming from Columbia University Press. His essays on American culture cover such eclectic topics as soul music and rockabilly, the history of anarchism, the writing of Gore Vidal, the Vietnam War and the films of southern documentary filmmaker Ross Spears. His most recent project is a series of essays dealing with the concept of adventure in late 20th century American culture, including "Oliver Stone's Journey to Myth-Country: Platoon and the Cultural History of America," which appeared in The Films of Oliver Stone (1997), edited by Don Kunz. Currently, Whaley is coordinator of American Studies at SU.
