Nabb Board Member Chairs Delaware Heritage Commission

SALISBURY, MD---Edward H. Nabb Research Center for Delmarva History and Culture board member Richard Carter of Millsboro, DE, has been named Chairman of the Delaware Heritage Commission by Delaware governor Ruth Ann Minner.   The commission publishes works on Delaware history and organizes commemorations of historical events and is preparing to celebrate the 375th Anniversary of the 1631 Dutch settlement near Lewes, DE, in 2006. The settlement lasted only a few months but was the deciding factor in Delaware becoming a separate colony and state from Maryland. Carter, a senior staff member of the Delaware State Senate in Dover, and a lifelong student of local history is the author of The History of Sussex County, and Clearing New Ground - The Life of John G. Townsend Jr. A Delmarva native with roots in all three sections of the peninsula, Carter came to the Nabb Center as a family researcher. He is co-chairing the Nabb Center's annual fund-raising event, Saturday, May 21, 2005, at the 18th century Cellar House Plantation on the banks of the Pocomoke River.
