SU Homecoming-Family Weekend November 1-3

SALISBURY, MD ---Salisbury University expects over 4,000 visitors Friday-Sunday, November 1-3, for Homecoming and Family Weekend. Alumni, family, friends, students, faculty and staff are invited to "Celebrate the New and Connect with the Past" during three days filled with academic, athletic, cultural and social festivities.

According to Roy S. Perdue, director of alumni relations, and Lawanda Dockins-Gordy, director of new student experience and the Guerrieri University Center, this year's schedule of events promises to have something for everyone.

"It's always a treat to plan for so many Sea Gull enthusiasts," Dockins-Gordy said. "Family weekend activities are also open to alums as well."

Friday evening the annual SU Athletics Hall of Fame reception and banquet is in the Wicomico Room, Guerrieri University Center. Three new members are being inducted: Harry "Clark" Cugler ('50, soccer, baseball and basketball), Cheryl Ish ('92, field hockey, lacrosse, basketball, and track and field) and Andre Foreman ('92, basketball). Pre-registration is required.

On Saturday open houses are from 8:30-11 a.m. in all four of the University's schools (business, education and professional studies, liberal arts, and science and technology), followed by an 11 a.m. brunch with SU President Janet Dudley-Eshbach in the Gulls Nest Eatery. Pre-registration is required.

Blackwell Library's open house and book sale begins at 10 a.m. with continental breakfast. At 11 a.m., local author Gianni (formerly Nan) DeVincent Hayes discusses the challenges of writing and signs books available for sale at the event.

New student experience slide shows from the Acadia Cycling, West Virginia White Water Adventure, Nantahala Creative Leadership and Algonquin Canoe trips are in the Wicomico Room, Commons, from 10-11 a.m.

At 1 p.m. football kicks off with the Sea Gulls hosting Wesley College. From noon-4 p.m. the Alumni Tent is located at Sea Gull Stadium with memorabilia on display. The SU Alumni Association is offering free gifts and refreshments. At 6 p.m. longtime history professor and University historian Sylvia Bradley signs copies of her just-published book, Salisbury: from Normal School to University. The book also goes on sale at the Nabb Center for Delmarva History and Culture, located on East Campus; the Nabb Center's Saturday hours are 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

Parents and family members are invited to the Family Weekend Hospitality Tent from noon-4 p.m. for complimentary refreshments. Student organizations provide entertainment at the intramural fields block party.

Several reunion dinners are held on- and off-campus beginning at 4 p.m. At 8 p.m. the curtain goes up on The Importance of Being Earnest in the Fulton Hall Theatre; a matinee performance is 2 p.m. on Sunday. For tickets call 410-543-6288. Hypnotist Michael Anthony performs at 8 p.m. on Sunday in Holloway Hall Auditorium.

The Fulton Hall Gallery exhibits "Children of Children" from noon-4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The annual Holiday Gift Shop is in the Atrium Gallery on Friday 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m.-2 p.m. and Sunday noon-4 p.m.
