SU Offers Latin American Cultural Immersion Day Bus Trip Sept. 25

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University continues its cultural immersion series a with Latin American Cultural Immersion Day bus trip to Washington, D.C., Saturday, September 25.

Participants visit the Library of Congress to view the Latin American exhibit “Exploring America,” followed by a stop at the Organization of American States’ Art Museum of the Americas and a statue of Venezuelan military and political leader Simón Bolívar near the museum.

In the afternoon, the tour continues at the Mexican Embassy’s cultural center, featuring a 200th anniversary exhibition with traditional crafts and murals by prominent 20th century artist Diego Rivera. A Latin American dinner follows.

Following a post-dinner stop at a statue honoring 19th century Mexican President Benito Juarez, the trip culminates with an evening at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and its “Celebrate Mexico 2010.”

Two performances are included: Guadalajara-based jazz, funk and rock band Troker, and the colorful Mexican circus troupe Cirko de Mente.

The bus leaves SU’s Dogwood Drive parking lot at 8 a.m., departing from Washington, D.C. at 9 p.m. During the drive, passengers receive cultural information and snacks, and Latin American music and films are played.

Tickets are $110, on sale at the Guerrieri University Center Information Desk. Student, faculty and staff discounts are available.
